NEW 2026/6/27  Flower arrangement “Saga Goryu” school

How beautifully the seasonal flowers are blooming this month!
The 36th Japanese Culture Experience Workshop: Flower arrangement“Saga Goryu” school was held in June.
The instructor was Ms. Miyuho Nishimura.

Flower arrangement is one of the traditional Japanese cultures.
It is said that the “Saga Goryu” school was originated in the early Heian period, in other words, it’s about 1200 years ago, when Emperor Saga put chrysanthemums from the Osawa Pond at Daikaku-ji Temple into a flower vase to feel nature closely.

We were able to learn how to express the beauty of natural scenery in a flower vase cherishing lives of every single flower and every single branch.

In this workshop, we arranged the seasonal flowers using floral foam and a plastic bottle as flower vase so that we could display and enjoy the work at home.

We arranged the flowers and branches changing the height to create beautiful room. Thanks to Ms. Nishimura, we experienced the authentic flower arrangement.

At last, we decorated Japanese washi paper around the plastic bottle based on individual preference.

These are our works.
Even using same flowers and materials, all of our works have originality.
Each work reflects the creator’s unique sensibilities and individuality.
Our vases are also beautiful, aren’t they?

What a wonderful moment it is to encounter with the seasonal flowers!
Now I’m thinking to buy other seasonal flowers and arrange them myself because the vase and floral foam can be reused.

The other participants were also satisfied with the workshop.
For example, some said like:
“I thought the flower arrangement would be difficult, but I really enjoyed it.”
” It was pleasant and soothing to spend time engaging with the flowers.”

We are happy if our workshops help deepen your understanding of Japanese culture, which values four seasons and the nature.

Thank you very much for your participation!
Thank you so much, Ms. Nishimura!
